Growing Up With OneFamily
For children who have lost a parent or sibling, been injured or survived a terror attack, growing up can bring challenges that other children their age may not understand.
OneFamily’s Youth Division provides a place where children and teenagers can make friends, take part in activities and receive personal attention from counselors who get to know them over time.
From childhood through their teenage years, many grow up together as part of OneFamily.
Camps, Activities & Friendships
OneFamily’s summer, Passover and Hanukkah camps are among the highlights of the Youth Division’s year.
Children and teenagers come together for trips, sports, games and group activities, alongside therapeutic sessions led by trained professionals.
The camps give participants a chance to spend time with friends who have experienced similar losses. Between camps, OneFamily organizes outings, holiday activities and other opportunities to get together.
Someone Looking Out for Every Child
OneFamily’s youth coordinators and counselors stay in contact with children throughout the year, building relationships that extend beyond organized activities.
They check in, listen and pay attention to changes in a child’s behavior or emotional well-being. When additional help is needed, they work with the family and appropriate professionals to make sure the child receives it.
Big Brother & Big Sister Program
Through OneFamily’s Big Brother and Big Sister program, children who have lost a parent or sibling are paired with volunteer mentors who spend time with them individually.
They meet regularly, whether it’s to go out together, help with homework or simply talk.
Mentors also make an effort to be there for important occasions, including birthdays and memorial anniversaries. These relationships can become an important part of a child’s life.
Educational Assistance
OneFamily provides tutoring and academic support for children who need extra help at school.
Whether a child has fallen behind, is struggling to concentrate or needs help with a particular subject, the assistance is intended to help them keep up with their studies.
Growing Up and Giving Back
Many children remain involved with OneFamily through their teenage years and into young adulthood, developing friendships that continue well beyond the camps.
Some eventually return as counselors, mentors or volunteers, working with younger children who are now attending the same programs they once did.
Help OneFamily provide camps, mentoring, educational assistance and personal support for children and teenagers affected by terror.
